Circus Finelli brings its new vaudeville duo show to Vashon Island! Luz Gaxiola (native of Vashon) is Big Time, and Molly Shannon (native of San Francisco) is Little Something in this slapstick comedy featuring live music, 1930s radio-show style dialogue, eccentric dance, and circus antics. 

For the last four years, audiences have been packing the Red Bicycle for Comedy Night. By turns hilarious, insightful, and embarrassing, Comedy Night has become a high-voltage experiment in stand-up comedy with a growing roster of seasoned island comedians and terrified newbies.

Don’t be alarmed if you hear talk of Flying Monkeys and Tornadoes; there hasn’t been a change in our weather patterns. It is only the buzz around Dance! Vashon’s production of Wizard of Oz. Featuring over 120 performers from the Vashon Dance Academy, this show incorporates ballet, modern, and world funk in the telling of this familiar story. Audiences will recognize the iconic ruby slippers, Wicked Witch, and other traditional cast members. But there are some unexpected elements, explaining why the Wizard wants the Witch’s broom, and of course, scenes featuring the hilarious Dancing Dads as the Witch’s guards and Apple Trees.

Pirates will land on Vashon this month with Drama Dock’s presentation of the treasured classic, "The Pirates of Penzance". Drama’s Dock’s jolly band of thespians brings Gilbert & Sullivan’s popular comic opera to the Bethel Church stage with performances July 13-22 including Strawberry Festival weekend.

Bring dad out for a night of music, theater, and fun as IsleWilde celebrates Father’s Day with "The Father of all Shows", a benefit variety show on Saturday, June 16th, 8:00pm, at The Red Bicycle Bistro and sushi.

Beauty, love, drama and betrayal with ultimate forgiveness characterize Giselle, the beautiful and dramatic ballet scored by Adolph Adams. Set in the Middle Ages Rhineland during harvest season, this poignant love story of a peasant girl and prince invites audiences to another time and place.

The evening is hosted by local humorist and provocateur, Steffon Moody, and features an All Star crew of locally famous on-island comedians, plying their craft as only locally famous amateur comedians can ply.

We will announce the lineup once it’s finalized!

Audience members will be transported into an other-wordly garden when VAA New Works recipients Patricia Kelly and Pat Churchill stage their co-produced/co-directed performance at the Blue Heron. Through the Garden Gate, inspired by Island author Terry Hershey’s book Soul Gardening, showcases multi-media talents of more than 20 Island performers. Theatre in the round, gallery walls will move to accommodate production and seating. Pick up your tickets early, as seating will be limited.

Vashon audiences have a not-to-be-missed treat in store this spring. In perhaps its most ambitious production to date,Vashon Opera is presenting the Russian master piece, "Eugene Onegin". It’s an unforgettable opera that brings together the work of two Russian cultural giants -- the lush, dramatic music of Tchaikovsky

Church of Great Rain will present a special Revival Show on Sunday, May 20 at Open Space for Arts and Community. The show’s musical guests will be Seattle based world-soul-pop band Luc and the Lovingtons. The show will feature the Church House Band and the Holy Roller Radio Players will be performing some of the best skits from the early days at the Red Bike and the first year at Open Space. Audience members are invited to join in the fun by writing on a topic to be read aloud during the show.

VAA’s Musical Theatre production, Fiddler on the Roof Jr., under Marita Ericksen’s direction, explodes on stage with 35 talented singers, actors and musicians, ages 7 to 17. Since January, the multi-age cast constructed characters, learned choreography and rehearsed songs. The performance takes place Thursday (Food Bank benefit), Friday, Saturday, May 3-5, 7 pm, and Saturday, May 5, 2 pm.

Improvisational comedy found a home with Seattle’s Jet City Improv troupe nearly 20 years ago. Their fast-paced, funny, tried and true method of bringing audience ideas to life on the spot has entertained countless audience members of all ages and earned them the description of Seattle’s best comedy show.

The beautiful London sculptress could barely believe she’d been summoned to the retired sleuth’s estate. "You came to my attention long before you showed an artistic inclination," states the eccentric, legendary detective-consultant. The young woman couldn’t believe the next words uttered by Sherlock Holmes: "I am your father."

Church of Great Rain promises comic relief for taxing times at a special April Foolishness Show at 4PM on Sunday, April 1 at Open Space for Arts and Community. The show will feature Seattle singer Star Anna with guitarist Justin Davis. Show co-founder Frank Hein, now living on Catalina Island in California, will be making a special guest appearance.

VAA’s first New Works Series 2012, presents Lelavision’s latest endeavor "Harvesting Light." A musical-sculpture installation/performance event, Ela Lamblin and Leah Mann perform Harvesting Light with Island guest artists Jason Staczek (composer), Lynelle Sjoberg and Abby Enson (movement artists). Two performances offer an earlier, abbreviated kid-friendly interactive performance, followed by a full length show.

Vashon Opera presents Hansel and Gretel, a charming story with a candy house! Will the brother and sister free more than 30 Vashon Island children from the witch’s clutches? Come find out while hearing beautiful voices and the soaring melodies of a classic opera.

Church of Great Rain promises love in the afternoon with heartfelt humor at a special Valentines Show on Sunday, February 12 at 4PM at Open Space for Arts and Community. The show will feature guest appearances by mythologist Michael Meade and musician Ian Moore.
