On Saturday, June 23rd, Vashon’s Lit Lounge returns in an intimate new setting… Gather.
Island storytellers and writers are invited to come with a true short story, 5 minutes or less, around the theme of HEAT. People who bring a story will drop their name in a hat at the door when they enter – and names will be drawn as the event unfolds. If your name is drawn, up you come to tell your story. Between 10 to 12 names will be drawn – and it’s up to fate and the storytelling gods and goddesses to determine whose names those are…
Lit Lounge is an open forum – the participants who share, and the audience who comes to listen, create the tone and flavor of the night as it unfolds. HEAT can be interpreted in so many ways, heat in the kitchen, heat in the air, the heat of battle, the heat of chemistry and attraction… an element that is life-giving and life-threatening, dependent on the temperature involved.
The brainchild of Islander Cara Briskman, Lit Lounge was inspired by similar events in other parts of the country and by programs like the Moth Radio Hour. Cara began working with island writer and performer Maria Glanz to launch this program in 2016 at Open Space. After taking a hiatus from producing, Cara realized that the new Gather space in downtown Vashon would be an ideal setting for the debut of a new, more intimate Lit Lounge.
Stories are one of the most ancient ways of gathering, of making sense of life, of sharing oneself with others. Join us to share your own story, or simply to listen to others.
Admission is $10 Suggested Donation at the Door. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
All ages are welcome, but the event is not intended for children. Stories may include mature language or themes.
