James C. Tharp


James C Tharp, AKA WA7KYI (his ham radio call), A.K.A Popsie, died at his home in Dockton on March 22nd. He was 74 years old. He was a long-time amateur radio operator who loved Morse Code and worked in the radio industry for most of his life. He was born in Seattle, served in Korea during the Vietnam War, and moved to Vashon in the early 70s to work for King Broadcasting on Maury island.  Jim was long attached to the (KING-AM)1090 facility on Maury.  It was ‘his baby’ for many years. He will be remembered fondly by the many folks who he frequently coffied with at the Roasterie, dined with at Sporty’s breakfast and/or taught about Ham radio and electronics.

He was preceded by his wife, Melanie Tharp, mother, Muriel Pritchard, and father, Dale Tharp. He is survived by his son Adam Tharp, daughter-in-law Sue Day, Granddaughter Zea Tharp, sister Marilyn “Suzie” Gran and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

A Private Service will take place later in the spring.
