Portland, OR based musician, Kathryn Claire, met Margot Merah and Sophie Janna (Amsterdam based folk-duo, The Lasses) at a singing session in Amsterdam in 2013. Sharing a love for harmony singing and story-telling through music, they soon realized that together they could deliver both heartfelt ballads and foot-stomping songs with equal measures of joy and musicality.

When the Vashon Island Chorale presents its “Legacy” concerts on April 21 & 22, Kendall Campbell Davis will be singing in the soprano section. Davis, who now lives in Arizona, was the conductor of the group when it began as “Island Singers” in 1989. She will also take the podium to direct the singers for one number at the concerts in the Kay White Theater at Vashon Center for the Arts.

If you were on the dance floor the night of The Van Redeker Band’s electrifying Red Bike show in September, you know you’ll want to be there again as the group returns for another evening of Rock ‘n Roll love.

Known for their energetic performance style, lush vocal harmonies and non-stop boogie – the group will present a set honed over two years of playing at the Bike, including classics by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton and our very own Daryl Redeker.

After the amazing success of the last five year’s events, Vashon Events is planning a show that will celebrate the most romantic day of the year, Valentines Day. We’re having it a little early this year to really get everyone in the mood for their special night with their loved ones. Once again, it will be at the Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi. This will be a Vashon Events benefit show.

Vashon Events is pleased to announce a new partnership with Vashon Center for the Arts to showcase local bands at the Katherine L. White Theater on First Fridays, beginning on February 2nd. In coordination with the First Friday Gallery Cruise, the concerts will tie into the theme in the VCA gallery and create a fun conclusion for First Friday activities through musical performance. The concerts will run from 8:30 to 10pm and were made possible by a generous gift from John L. Scott – Vashon, sponsor of the First Friday Local Music Series.

Vashon Events is once again partnering with the Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi to host a showcase of holiday songs to benefit Island Nonprofits this holiday season. The Fifth Annual Will Sing for Vashon will take place on Friday, December 22nd beginning at 8pm. The event is always an open call for Vashon Island musicians to perform a holiday song. In the past over 25 acts perform through the night and this year is no exception.

Free Range Folk Choir offers a sing-along concert in the key of Thanksgiving, at 7pm on Saturday Nov. 25 in the Vashon High School auditorium. Enjoy songs of peace, strength, and joy in community with harmonic vocal arrangements of Bridge Over Troubled Water, Down on the Corner, and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Rounds for peace, songs to nourish love and joy, and northwest and international folk tunes are also on the menu for the season.

Plan now to enjoy music of the holiday season by attending the Carols & Cantatas concert on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 7:30pm and Sunday, Dec. 3 at 3pm in The Kay White Theater! Ninety-five singers (including a Youth Chorus) and thirty orchestra members will entertain concert-goers with traditional carols and two cantatas.

Island officials, celebrities and rock star wannabes are polishing up their air guitars for VoV’s Third Annual KVSH Birthday Bash, Friday, November 10, at the Red Bike.  It’s going to be a Lip Sync Battle hosted by Arlette Moody – Vashon’s version of Catherine Zeta-Jones – and starring the people you see or hear from regularly…in a whole new light.

When Gregg Curry emigrated to the Northwest from Alabama he brought along a satchel of songs and southern charm to the safe confines of Vashon Island and found likeminded soul to form a new band Gregg Curry and Ragged Glory. The seven-piece ensemble deliver raw, energized roots rock, alt country and Americana.

Curry and Co. teamed up with acclaimed producer, engineer and musical guru Martin Feveyear to record their second full length album, The Last Train, set for release at this show.

Steve Minzel, 35 years behind the keyboard, has played all over the Pacific Northwest.  Leslie Shelton, 40 years on bass guitar and a vocalist in the band who has written and recorded an album and back in the day toured with Bo Diddly and from 1990 to 2000 played with Bill Brown and the Kingbees.

A protégé of the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar legends, including the late master Uncle Sonny Chillingworth, Makana has dedicated his life to perpetuating as well as evolving the traditional Hawaiian art form of Slack Key or “Ki Ho’alu”.

He has matured over the course of eight increasingly accomplished solo albums, and writes songs that seem to have been scratched into a boxcar wall by a worn-out and lonesome ghost.

During the first week of October, world-class musicians from many genres will come together in an ambitious project…to record and perform a full night of music…in a week.  Brought together by local composer and fretless bassist, Jason Everett who has been named an “Artist in Residence” by the prestigious non-profit Jack Straw Productions, the project will capture high-quality audio and video performances of his compositions which are inspired by his love for classical, jazz and Indian Fusion music.

Local singer-songwriter, Allison Shirk, returns to the Red Bike on Friday, August 11th at 8:30pm to perform original songs and cover tunes for her birthday bash!

Local singer-songwriter, Allison Shirk, returns to the Red Bike on Friday, August 11th at 8:30pm to perform original songs and cover tunes for her birthday bash! The date is her actual birthday and she hopes to celebrate the day doing what she loves the most, making music and being with friends and loved ones. Allison plays music that blends her Texas country roots with her love for vocal jazz and blues. After a successful kickstarter campaign in 2015, Allison has been promoting her debut album, Break My Heart and performing around the Northwest as a solo artist and with a band.
