Coffee is a labor-intensive crop, grown in some of the most economically marginalized and environmentally sensitive regions of the world. The life of not only the plants themselves, but also of the farmers, the pickers, and their families and communities, are vulnerable to rapid changes in political and economic challenges, as well as the ever-increasing unpredictability of weather patterns across the tropics.
The coffee’s path to Vashon was a long one this year, and we are happy it made it! Jim Stewart thinks that, “From start to the finish, it’s a miracle that the coffee even makes its way to the States.” It is complicated, the coffee is stunning, and we are grateful.
